Signs It’s Time to Start Therapy for You or Your Child

Signs it’s time to start therapy

If you are reading this, that’s probably your first sign. Truth is… almost anyone can benefit from therapy. Not just those in crisis or who have experienced huge traumas.

Therapy can help you understand yourself, learn new coping skills, strengthen your relationships, and improve your life.

Trust your instincts!

Okay, for real. Here are some signs it might be time to reach out:

  • You feel stressed and overwhelmed more days than not

  • You’re sad, numb, and/or hopeless for weeks at a time

  • A major life change happened, like divorce, a new job, grief, or becoming a parent

  • You feel stuck in the same cycles and patterns

  • You’re using not so healthy coping mechanisms to avoid emotions - alcohol, food, shopping, screen time, etc

  • Anger has taken over and you are snapping at loved ones

  • You are experiencing physical symptoms like not sleeping, unexplained headaches/stomachaches, or trouble concentrating

  • You’re just surviving, not living

Now, our kids don’t always have the words to tell us when they are struggling. Often, they will show us through their behavior.

Therapy might be helpful if your child:

  • Has frequent meltdowns or intense emotions

  • Suddenly withdraws from friends or family

  • Appears more anxious or worried than usual

  • Starts having sleep problems or nightmares

  • Says negative things about themselves or has low self-esteem

  • Experiences big changes like divorce, bullying, loss, etc

  • Starts struggling in school or not wanting to attend

If you are wondering if it’s time to call a therapist for you or your children, it’s worth having a conversation. You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Sometimes the first step is just being curious.

I’m happy to offer a free consultation to discuss your concerns and help you decide on the next best step!
